Workshop 1 (Half-day)
In the first workshop, we will dig into the PIE model - Participation. Information. Encouragement. Together, we will look at each slice of PIE in detail, and consider the whole PIE as a planning framework. Then we’ll use the PIE model to analyze a sample interpretive program and talk about how the PIE model could be used at your site. In the Encouragement section we will address ways to inspire visitors to take actions at the site, actions after leaving the site, or to a change in their being.
Workshop 2 (Half-day)
In the second workshop, we will explore Dialogic Interpretation using the TALK model - Talk Types, Ask Great Questions, Lead with Facilitation Techniques, and Keep on Inspiring. We will discuss how to increase your visitors’ level of participation through dialogue, improve the questions you ask, make dialogic interpretation fun and engaging, and overcome common obstacles, such as silent participants, visitors who talk too much or staff reluctance to try new techniques.
Keep On Inspiring
In the Keep on Inspiring section, we will cover ways to keep your staff/volunteers and organization inspired, in addition to inspiring your visitors. The last section will include ideas for encouraging ongoing feedforward between team members, and ways to report to management on the successes of participatory and dialogic interpretation.
Coaching
The training course will be followed by two hours of coaching with Dr. Jacquie to help you further develop your ideas for using PIE and TALK techniques at your site. We could hold a virtual session after your team has had time to digest the course content, hold a session after your team has had a chance to try some of the ideas at your site or set up a virtual meeting between you as the supervisor/manager and Jacquie only. We will discuss the best coaching option for your site.
Note: This course is longer and goes into more detail than the Just PIE or Just TALK sessions, providing you the opportunity to tailor the conversation to your situation and receive more follow up coaching with Dr. Jacquie. Combining PIE and TALK into this one course also ensures more holistic discussion addressing participatory and dialogic techniques simultaneously.

Online training is offered online on your own time, through the Miro whiteboard. Other courses and coaching are offered virtually (at scheduled times, via Zoom/other and Menti.com) or face-to-face. Additional costs required to cover travel for face-to-face training.
